Perched on the lap of snow capped mountains, the enchanting hill station of
Nainital is located in north Indian state of Uttaranchal. Nainital has an
abundance of natural beauty which mesmerizes all visiting the place. Snow
capped mountains, green valleys, rolling meadows and its sparkling lakes
beckons tourists from different parts of the world. The hill station is
located at an altitude of 1938 metres around a beautiful lake. The lush
greenery and serene ambience of Nainital offers recluse to tourists from the
din and bustle of cities. Nainital's unique landscape also makes it a haven
for aquatic sports like Yatching, Kayaking, Canoeing and Boating.
Attractions in the City

Naina Peak : Naina peak is the first in the itinerary of most tourists
visiting the place. A splendid bird's eye view of Nainital is available from
the top of this peak. What thrills tourists more is the stunning view of
snow clad Himalayas seen in their towering glory from this beautiful spot.
The peak is at a distance of some 6 kms from the town and is also one of the
most beautiful treks.
» Dorothy Seat : Dorothy's seat is another peak top
from where great views of the low lying landscape is available. Also known
as 'Tiffin Top', there is a memorial of Mrs. Dorothy Kellet built by her
husband in the place. The place also commands an excellent view of the
Himalayas. The route to the top is another popular trek of Nainital.
» Land's End : The landscape of this place is such
that one feels that the end of the land has really come on reaching the
area. Tourists need not labour much as this point is easily accessible. A
breathtaking view of the neighbouring hills, valleys and Khurpatal lake is
available from the point.
» St. John-In-The Wilderness : This is one of the
earliest buildings as well as church erected in Nainital. The church could
be regarded as an architectural masterpiece of the colonial period. The
gorgeous interiors and stained glass windows of the building are a treat to
the eye. The building was first opened for public on April 2, 1848.
» Raj Bhawan : Another charming structure dotting
the picturesque landscape of Nainital is the Raj Bhavan of the place. The
building is modelled after the Buckingham Palace of Great Britain. The
serene ambience, vividly green lawns, grey stone steps and a few old Deodar
trees in the compound are reminiscent of the colonial days. The foundation
stone of the building was laid on April 27, 1897 and was completed in March
1900.
» Kilbury : Located at a short distance of 11 kms
from Naini town, Kilbury is regarded as a paradise for bird watchers.
Varieties of multi coloured birds and their chirpings raises the spirits of
wildlife enthusiasts coming to the place.

Ramgarh : At a short distance of 25 kms from Nainital, Ramgarh is a
picturesque town known for its apple orchards. The place also commands a
great view of the Himalayas. The Aurobindo Ashram and house of noted Hindi
writer Mahadevi Verma are the other places in Ramgarh worth a visit.
» Mukteshwar : Mukteshwar is another beautiful hill
station located at a distance of some 52 kms from Nainital. The place
daringly overlooks a deep ravine on one side and the beautiful town of
Almora on the other. The Indian Veterinary Research Institute is located in
the place. 'Chauli Ki Jali' is a famous spot here dedicated to Lord Shiva
where childless couples come to pray for children.

Pantnagar at a distance of 71 kms.
» By Rail : Kathgodam is the nearest railhead from
Nainital at a distance of 35 kms. It is connected by broadgauge with Delhi
and Kolkata.
» By Road : A good road network connects Nainital
with other towns of Uttaranchal as well as destinations of northern India.
