» Climate & the best time to visit : The
climatic conditions in Mussoorie are excellent for a summer break. Summers
are mild and pleasant. Mercury hardly rises beyond 30 degrees in the summer
months. Winters are very cold and temperatures may hover close to the
freezing levels. Winter nights are very chilly and heavy woolens are
mandatory. The best time to visit Mussoorie is during the April-September
period.
The City
Located in the Doon valley of Uttaranchal, Mussoorie is one of the most
popular hill stations of the state. Misty mountains, vivacious streams,
flowers in full bloom, tall shady trees and colonial architecture are the
perennial features of the breathtaking landscape of the place. Mussoorie
commands an exhilarating view of snow clad Himalayas to its north and some
thrilling views of Doon Valley and Haridwar to the south. The pine dominated
hill slopes further enhances the beauty of the landscape and leaves a
lasting impression on the mind. Many opine that in Mussoorie, nature is at
its best.

Kempty Fall : Kempty fall is located in a beautiful valley surrounded
by high mountains on the outskirts of the town. The sight of water gushing
in and falling from a height of over 4500 feet leaves all spellbound.
Bathing at the foot of the hills is very popular among tourists.
» Gun Hill : Gun Hill is the second highest peak of
Mussoorie. But the main attraction here is a ropeway ride of 400 metres to
the very top of the peak. The ropeway ride is sheer thrill which also
provides magnificent views of the low lying areas.
» Camel's Back Road : The most popular pastimes
along Camel's Back Road are horse rides. Tourists coming to the place never
miss a ride on the back of horses which also allows them to see the town
from close quarters. This road having a steep ascent also qualifies as a
popular trekking route of the place.
» Nag Devta Temple : The temple dedicated to Nag
Devta is one of the ancient temples of the place. The temple is located some
6 kms away from the main town in Cart Mackenjie Road. The temple is located
at a higher altitude and a stunning view of Doon Valley is available from
here.
» Mussoorie Lake : Mussoorie lake is a delightful
spot. The clear blue waters of the lake sparkles as the rays of the sun fall
on them. Boating facilities are also available here. A nice view of Doon
Valley is also available from here.
» Van Chetna Kendra : Van Chetna Kendra is the
place in Mussoorie to have a close encounter with its wildlife. Located in
the midst of tall pine trees and flowering shrubs, it is also a popular
picnic spot. Some of the wildlife attractions here are Gaur, Kankar,
Himalayan Peacock etc.

Jwalaji Temple : At a short distance of 9 kms from the Town centre is
the most revered place of worship of the Mussoorie in the form of Jwalaji
Temple. The temple is located at an altitude of 2104 meters. It is situated
on the top of Benog hill and is dedicated to Goddess Durga. Thick forests
cover the entire temple.

» Dehradun : Uttaranchal's capital city of Dehradun
is located only 36 kms from Mussoorie. The city has the Himalayas to its
north, the Shivalik range to its south, the sacred Ganges to its east and
the Yamuna to its west. The main attractions of Dehradun include Rajaji
National Park, Forest Research Institute, Tapkeshwar Temple, Malsi Deer
Park, Sahastradhara and Robber's Cave. Just like Mussoorie, Dehradun is also
regarded as a haven for nature lovers.
» Haridwar :
Visitors coming to Mussoorie can also go for a pilgrimage to the ageless
pilgrimage destination of Haridwar via Dehradun. Haridwar, which literally
means the Gate of Gods is held in high reverence by Hindus since centuries.
The temples of Haridwar ate thronged by devotees all round the year to seek
divine blessings. The biggest religious festival of Hindus, the Kumbh Mela
is held here every 12 years.

Jolly Grant airport of Dehradun located some 24 kms away from Mussoorie.
» By Rail : The nearest railway station is located
in Dehradun.
» By Road : Mussoorie is well connected to other
parts of Uttaranchal. Regular bus services are available from national
capital Delhi to the hill station.
