The city
Mumbai, better known as Bombay is one of the major business and celluloid
center of India and is also the capital of the state of Maharashtra. Mumbai
derives its name from the local deity Mumba Devi. It is a group of seven
islands which are today known as Colaba, Mahim, Mazgaon, Parel, Worli,
Girgaun and Dongri. Mumbai is known as a city that never sleeps, it is
considered as the Las Vegas of India, due to the presence of several
discotheques, restaurants and night clubs in Mumbai. Part of India's
beautiful west coast, the city has a natural harbor, which was developed by
the British. It is one of the busiest ports in India, handling approximately
40 percent of India's maritime trade.

» Gateway of India : If you come to Mumbai you have
to visit the Gateway of India, which is considered as the statue of liberty
of India. Gateway of India is a historical gateway built in British style.
» Prince of Wales Museum : This museum is designed
in Indo-Saracenic style and is one of the finest buildings constructed
during British rule. Prince of Wales museum was designed in the honor of the
Prince of Wales on his first visit to India.
» Mahalaxmi Temple : Mahalaxmi temple is one of the
famous temples in Mumbai and is devoted to The Goddess of wealth Mahalaxmi.
Idols of Hindu Goddesses Mahalaxmi, Mahasaraswati and Mahakali are also
situated in the temple.

How to reach
» Air : Mumbai has both an international airport as

4 km away.

and Western Railways. The main railway station is Victoria Terminal, now
renamed Chattrapati Shivaji Terminal. Regular trains connect it with all
major cities like Ahamedabad, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Calcutta,
Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Madras, Nagapur and Trivandrum.
